Popcorn
Lots of different ways to prepare this Deters staple!
Ingredients
Popcorn - 1 cup
Oil - 2 TBS
Melted Butter
Directions
Basic: put 2 tablespoons of oil in a large pan with a lid. Heat oil on medium high with 3 or 4 kernels of popcorn. When you hear those pop, add 1 cup of popcorn. Shake the pan side to side so popcorn does not burn. When you hear the pops slow down to just a one every second or so, dump the pan into a large bowl. Add melted butter by drizzling it with a spoon over the bowl. Add salt to taste.
Variations
Use butter flavored Crisco instead of oil. You may not need to add butter in this case.
Use butter instead of oil. Turn down the heat, since butter burns at a lower temperature than oil. Again, you may not need to add more butter after cooking.
Use a hot air popper. No oil needed. Just add popcorn. Then top with butter and salt when cooked.
Use a popcorn pan with a stirring rod. This helps keep popcorn from sitting and burning.
Jiffy Pop is pre-packaged, and great for camping. However, they can burn easily. Be sure to share the Jiffy pop from side to side constantly while cooking. The foil top will expand. Remove from heat when popping slows. Be careful opening the foil, there will be hot steam.
Some people like to top their popcorn with things like brewer’s yeast, or parmesan cheese, but they are not related to us, and you should make fun of them.
